This camera has been personally CLA'd by myself and is running like it was just taken out of its box. It has been re-skinned in genuine goat-skin leather for the luxurious finish that a camera of this caliber deserves!
The Canon AE-1 was a revolutionary camera. I cannot stress how much I love the A series Canon cameras.
The AE-1 paved the way for many of the concepts of current camera designs. It popularized and devices like Power Winders and electronic Speedlites, making them a household name in the consumer market. The AE-1 was the first camera ever made to be controlled entirely by electronics precision rather than by mechanical functions.
When it was released, the general public was initially hesitant, and a lot of professional photographers did not trust the newfangled electronic design.
However, over time, the design proved to be absolutely bullet proof, and was a runaway success. Over 1 million units were sold! The unique combination of precise electronic control and simple focal plane cloth shutter created a camera that was practically invincible. A testament to Japanese engineering!
AE-1's are incredibly well made, and absolutely bullet proof. In fact, the A series soon became the official cameras of the US Navy, the 1980 and 1984 Olympic Games and the 1982 world cup!
It offers very precise and stable timing of shutter speeds, that also extended to other areas like auto flash-synchronization when used with the Canon Speedlight flashes.
Best of all are the different exposure modes. If you are feeling lazy, just set the lens to "A" and the camera to "PROGRAM" and the camera will take care of the aperture and shutter speed for you! As well as the fully automatic PROGRAM, you also have the option of shutter priority, aperture priority and full manual over-ride when you want to have complete control over exposure.
Anyway, enough talk, just trust me, whether you are a beginner or a pro, if you want a 35mm SLR camera, this is the one for you!
This camera has been personally restored by myself and is now running as if it were brand new out of the box!
The shutter cogs and mirror return have been lubricated, I've installed new foam in the door and mirror return and I've replaced the original vinyl skin with a brand new Mocha leather goat hide! Apart from normal wear and tear, costmetically the camera is incredible for something that is over 40 years old! Please see all photos to check out the condition.
